What Is Home To Me?

What is home to me? A home, what does it look like, what does it feel like, is there a sound… or a smell? There are many ways that you can use to describe a home. But today I will describe my home to you! To me home is not a house, or an apartment, or even a building. It’s a place, and that place is the small town of Port Elgin. Port Elgin is beautiful, there's beaches with sand and big rocks that you can walk on, there's forests with big old trees that have been there for generations and they will keep growing for generations to see, and in the winter when the lake freezes it makes the whole town look like a winter wonderland. Yes, many towns look like mine, but it’s the feeling you get when you enter the town. The feeling of being accepted, the feeling of hope. The smell of the fall fest when people come from far and wide just to go on every ride. The sound of laughter in the summer from every backyard. The beach with people from everywhere, the cold lake water in your hair. Habitat For Humanity helps people find home in a safe community with people that they will learn to know. And one day those people that are new and unfamiliar will be considered their family. If by now you still think that home can’t be more than a building you clearly don’t like the place you live so maybe it’s time for a change of scenery. And when you finally find a community you love you will be happy and safe!
