What Is Home

Home is not just bricks and windows, not just an address written in fine black ink. It’s the feeling that meets people at the door before I even grip the door knob. It’s the way the air feels familiar, like it already knows my mood. If I’m tired, it calmens. If I’m happy it seems to glow. Home is the quiet hum of everyday life the dishwasher running in the background, footsteps moving from room to room, a laugh drifting down the hallway. Small sounds that would mean nothing anywhere else but I mean everything here. Home is where holidays feel warmer, where birthdays are loud and a little chaotic, where decorations might not match but the faces do. It’s cheering too loudly during big games, celebrating like we’re part of the team, and laughing about it the next day. It’s comfort food on ordinary evenings, shared desserts, second helpings, someone saying, “There’s more if you want.” It’s inside jokes that don’t need explaining and stories that get retold because I love the way they end.
