Home, Hoppie and Me

This is a true story and happened one fine spring day in my own backyard. CHIRP! CHIRP! His brother and sister chirped, so did he. They were all hungry, waiting for the food. Suddenly, the world was upside down. What was happening? Everything was so fast. His little mind was racing, and he got scared. Then, boom! he hit the ground. He slowly got on his tiny little feet. His nest was high up in the trees, and he had a longing to go back home. He got more scared and realized he had fallen! As he ran, he saw something falling from the tree. He went to see and found a small baby bird on the grass. He needed to get it home quickly, so he picked it up and went home. Everyone rushed to see what happened, and then they saw the baby bird. We called it Hoppy. Hoppy was a small bird with a red belly. We put him in a nice soft cardboard box with newspapers in it and gave him warm milk. We had him for a long time. One day, when he was old enough, we brought him out. To our surprise, he flew up to his old home. He wanted to go back. As we realized his brothers and sisters were old enough, they weren't there; they were all gone, and so was his mother. He flew on and looked all day. We brought him inside as it was getting colder outside. We kept doing little trips until, one day, he flew away and we couldn't get him down. We hid, waited, and waited until we got him. We made sure he wouldn't fly away the next time, but he made it. He flew away. He was old enough, and he had a new life waiting ahead. Then I wondered: What does home mean to me? To end the story, I will leave you with a poem: What is home? What should I say about home? Is home just a place I live in, or is there more? Have you ever heard about all the people around the world who don't have homes? Whether you have a nice big house or a small one, be thankful. A home is not just where I live; it's where there's a roof above my head, something that protects me from the weather. Have you looked around and seen a snowstorm or a thunderstorm? Then have you wondered if the home protects you? So what I want to tell you is to be thankful for your home. Sometimes you want to go out with a friend, or with a cousin, or maybe even with family. But eventually, you want to go home. You get tired. What do you do when you get tired? You go to sleep. What do you feel when you sleep? Comfort. Yes, the feel of home is comfort and warmth!
