What is Home?

What is home? Home can symbolize a handful of different things. Like the foundation it's built off of, like bricks, doors, and windows or shelter. To have a sense of protection during harsh snow storms, boiling cruel summers, or freezing autumn rain. It can also mean a place I can go back to. Somewhere I can feel love emanating from the people I hold close, the people who care deeply for me. Don't get me wrong, it’s not always sunshine and rainbows. My house is loud and obnoxious, and a lot of arguments sometimes, constant fights boiling up from the abyss, or it's just honestly boring, and the only place I can get at least some peace is in my room. But it’s just reality and I have to learn how to deal with it. I still appreciate the bits and pieces I’ve collected along the way. Like baking heartwarming red velvet cake with my mom, Beating my brother in amusing video games, Fooling around with my siblings in the house and then getting in deep trouble after, or doodling little things on walls. It’s little things like that make me love my home. I’ve grown connections and bonds in this town and I feel close to my home, lots of built memories and stories. Tears and paint covering the walls. Sadly, I’m moving far away from home, which means all of those memories will stay there while I bring some. Win some, lose some right? Once I move I’ll be able to make new friends and memories. It’s still gonna be hard to drop 11 years of living here down the drain but I’m excited for the future. I can’t wait to decorate my new room, spending time with my family and loved ones, hanging out with my newfound future friends, or spending time to myself flipping through brittle pages of a book. But back to the question. What is home? To me home is a place memories and bonds can form, a place to spend time with yourself or the ones you care for. A shelter, somewhere to keep you safe from the harm of mother nature. Or an escape to forget about the cruel reality and binge watch your favorite shows. But all in all home is the memories made in it.
