The Meaning of Home

What makes a home a home? I used to think that a home is just a house, just a building, just an apartment. But now I've realized what really makes a home. A home is a place that you can go to. And not be scared. To be yourself, to be who you really are. To live, to love, laugh, to cry. When I walk into my home, I feel warm not just on the outside but on the inside. I feel loved, I feel safe, and I think that I can come home no matter how badly I mess up. It doesn't matter how much money your home costs. It doesn't matter how big your home is; what matters is how much love you put into it. Some people don’t even have a home, but that is ok too. You can be anywhere in the world, a home is not a place, it's about who you share it with. It could be your parents, your foster parents, or even your grandparents; it does not matter. Whoever you love is who you should spend your time with. I love my kitchen, I love my living room, I love my bedroom, I love everything about my home, even the little things like that, the fridge has a water dispenser, and how my bed sheets are almost always clean, and I am so lucky to have food in the pantry and to have so many clothes. Now I’ve learned what really makes a home. A home is not a place; it’s a feeling. Thank you, Habitat for Humanity for making the world a better place.
