The day before New Years Day

“Let's go to the car. Your sister is waiting for us”. “ok” “sounds good,” I chorused. We walked out to the car. We now had to make the two hour trip to Aunt Sally’s. I had forgotten what her house was like. Mom invaded my thoughts with a sigh, I always knew we would go back to Aunt Sally for New Years, she said. I slept most of the way there. A few hours later my mom woke me up “Bridget!” “Bridget!” “Wake up!” “Wake up!“ She sounded desperate. “get out of the car quickly.” I woke up and pulled myself out. “ We crashed,” Mom said. ”Are you ok?” I questioned her. “Yes, come. I called Aunt Sally, she said she would get here as soon as she could.” Just then a car drove up,“ Aunt Sally!” We exclaimed. “Here I am to save the day.” “Ha Ha!" We hopped in and Aunt Sally drove us the rest of the 200 meters to her house. Back at Aunt Sally's house I breathed in the aroma of sweet hay and lilacs. Aunt Sally showed us the room I would be staying in. It was a cozy room with a purple bedspread and a picture of a giraffe with swaying trees in the background. Before I knew it I was sprawled out on the purple bedspread fast asleep. In the morning, I woke up to the sound of giggling and the smell of waffles slathered in whipped cream and sticky syrup. I rolled out of bed and as I was getting on my clothes I recalled how a day before we were in a crash but that thought was wiped away as I gobbled down a waffle. I will always be grateful for a wonderful house.
