What My Home Means To Me
To me the meaning of home is where I'm accepted. A house can be anywhere, but a home is a place where you would feel comfortable. A lot of kids wouldn't call their home a home even though their family lives there. Most troubled kids would say their home is a school or a community service place because they feel accepted and comfortable there.
The sounds I hear when I think of home are my three year old brother running around our home singing baby shark and my nine year old brother talking to my dad about soccer. If you really try hard anywhere can be a home, if there’s anything that reminds you of home take it with you to places where you think you aren't accepted - take a little piece of it.
When I think of home I think of my family. It may sound very generic, but the reason for that is because me and my family have been through everything together. Let me tell you why - my family and I are immigrants from Nigeria. We moved because my parents wanted me and my siblings to have a better chance at life, so we moved about 1 million miles away from home.
Home is where my little brother Derrick says "no." The reason why that is so special to me is because my brother has social skill problems, so hearing him say "no" is progress which is very special to me. I really just want to thank God for all He has done for my family.
Every kid in the world deserves a home. Nobody deserves to feel hurt in their own home. Every kid should be able to answer the question, "What does home mean to you?" without thinking, "Where is my home?"
