What Home Means to Me
In my opinion, everyone should have a home because having a safe and warm place to live is important for maintaining health and well being. First, a home creates a place that has easy access to food and water. Secondly, a home provides a place to interact with family and friends. Lastly, homes give people the feeling of belonging and safety. Without homes, people wouldn’t have a place to live, play and grow in, so a home should be an essential part of every person life
A house creates a place that has easy access to food and water. I remember one time when I came back from school and I was starving. I had asked my father if we had anything to eat and right away, he whipped up something for me. The smell of fried rice always reminds me of my parents and the comfort of knowing that I would never starve. I acknowledge that many other people do not share the same necessities as I once took for granted and that they may not have had anything to fill their stomachs for maybe even days. Everyone should deserve a home so that they have the basic necessities to live. I remember another time when I was in desperate need of water. That time, I was in a park with my parents walking around when I really needed a drink. All the water we brought from home was gone so I had to go on without any. That small walk back to our house was one of the most torturous moments of my life. I had felt like my body had been sucked dry and not a single bit remained. That moment, I had a glimpse of what many people without homes felt. I may have had just felt a sliver of what they feel but that was enough to make me declare that that moment was one of the worst of my life. One last example is when my dad went to get pizza when it was winter and there was a houseless person right outside the door. After he had bought the pizza, my dad saw him outside again and he had decided to give him a few slices of pizza but before he could do it, the person on the way out in front of us gave him his whole box of pizza and a water bottle. That was one of the most wholesome moments of my life and whenever I see pizza now, it always reminds me of that houseless man and what other people did to help him. That moment will always have a home in my heart. A home isn’t always pillars and walls but it can be somewhere where you can interact with parents and friends.
A home provides a place to interact with family and friends. I think everyone should have a home because everyone should know how it feels like to laugh and cry with friends, what it feels like to talk with your parents at the dinner table, and how it feels like to have someone hold you when you feel sad. When the day of my birthday comes, I would invite all my friends over and we would laugh and watch weird videos. At that time, everything would fall into place. Listening to my random songs with friends is also the best experience. A part of a home is also sharing a simple but wholesome meal with your family. On the dinner table, you could share everything you did that day and what you’re motivated to do. Sharing with a family member at the dinner table can also relieve you of your worries. They could give you advice and somehow, convince you that you are more than what you thought of yourself. I think that everyone should experience the feeling of being supported and loved. That feeling gives you energy and keeps you motivated on what you are set out to do. Another small part of a home is to have someone to hug you when you cry. When you ever feel down or like you can’t do anything, your parents or someone close to you would cheer you up and maybe make goofy faces at you. Or they could force you to tell them what's wrong but either way, it shows that they care about you. Everyone needs a home because every single person in this world deserves to know how it feels to have a home and to be loved in it. A home is somewhere you live with people you love but also a place you feel of belonging and safety.
Homes give people a sense of belonging and safety. Having a home not only gives you shelter, a place to interact but also a place to feel like you belong. One time, when I was visiting my family in Vietnam, I had felt a sense of belonging, happiness and nostalgia. Even though I hadn’t been in Vietnam for 5 years, it felt like nothing had changed since I was 5 years old. It was because Vietnam already had a place in my heart, a place I could call home. Vietnam reminds me of home with the early morning honking, loud traffic as I wake up to the familiar scent of my grandparents. Everything in Vietnam reminds me of home. Even though I also have another home in Canada, Vietnam will always have a home in my heart. Another example of a home is when I'm at a friend's house. Even though I don’t go there often, her parents always treat me like family. Whenever I’m at her house, there’s so much chaos that it feels like home. The holiday spirit in her house every time I come is so cheerful and happy. No matter what season it is. At the time, I felt like I belonged and was safe. I believe that’s it's because they are all so warm and welcoming towards me so it makes me believe that their family will always have a home in my heart. I know that everyone deserves a because everyone deserves to have a place o call home. Even if it's in another place that isn’t your own. One last example of a home is when you feel like you belong at school. One of the home’s inside my heart is in school. School for me is somewhere I feel like I belong and feel safe. Even if school isn’t a house, it’s somewhere I feel comfortable and happy. The sound of pencils scribbling makes me feel peaceful and calm. Sometimes, even the sound of water bottles dropping makes me feel at ease. Everyone deserves a home to live in and feel like they belong. Maybe after they receive a home, they could find another home in a school, a friend's place or a person.
In conclusion, everyone deserves a place to feel safe and that they belong. I’m grateful for my parents for providing me with a place to lie and call home. Not all people share the same things as me but I do know that all deserve a home to live in and feel safe. I could just go home and plop onto my couch. My parents would also be next to me, comforting me when I feel down. My dad would make something for me when I feel hungry and I would feel like I belong. Not everyone could do that. 150 million people all over the world don’t have a home and a place to feel like they belong. In the streets, you wouldn’t have a moment of privacy. People walking by would stare at you like you grew a horn. Some people in the streets have great potential and have learned lots before they took residence in the streets. I strongly believe that everyone deserves a home so that they could have equal opportunities to live their lives.
