More than a building

A home is different in every way, the smell, the sight, the taste. But as you can imagine the thing it’s most different from is a house. A house is a building with a door and a table, a home is where everyone feels stable. It’s where tears shed on a bad day and where you and your siblings like to play. A house has no feeling it’s bare, you can even feel it in the air. A home has memories floating everywhere from the first word to the first car. No you don’t need to look quite far, maybe a few inches that’s all. But when you step in a swooping feeling washes over you, love, belonging , a home. A house was built by workers five hours a day, a home was built by the memories all day every day. A house has bare walls, clean floors ,and no feeling. A home has pictures of memories and mud on the floors from you and your sibling. A house you aren’t excited when you walk through the door, a home you walk through searching for more. A house isn’t where you and your sister eat all the cookies in secret, keep spoons in the freezer just in case. A home is where hide and seek isn’t fun anymore because you know all the best spots. A home is where your bad days disappear and smiles laugh. Where your sister sneaks into your bed because of a bad dream no house has that appealing. A house doesn't have pizza movie night or when your sister and dad cheer for opposite teams. A mom and a daughter talking through time , a friend and a friend doing a manicure. A home is where everything is familiar from first to last.
