Meaning of Home

Home, is there really a definition? It can be so many different things and mean a different thing to each person. Because we are all different and all of us have mixed feelings and opinions. To someone it could mean there moms homemade cookies to another it could mean something absolutely different. But that’s not why I was asked to write this essay; I’m supposed to give my opinion on what home means to me not rant on and on about what it means or “should” mean to someone else. So to start us off for me home is all about equality. I don’t know about you but in my home I feel like my voice and opinions should be respected and I should not be compared to people around me. My home is where I speak and no one judges. It’s a safe place to cry talk and be angry a place to let all the emotions out that you would usually conceal in public. It’s a place where you curl up on the couch and watch sad movies while eating ice cream after a bad day and all your home will do is comfort you. When I’m at home I feel like I can express so many emotions and my home will push me back up and support me. Second of all I think home is about safety, you should always feel safe in your home, and you should feel comfortable with the people around you or in your home. They should make you feel protected and loved. Being safe in your home also means being unharmed by things around you, such as weather or people. Unfortunately this is not true for everyone and some people are not safe in there home, but we can work towards making that our goal so that everyone can feel safe and loved in there home. And lastly but most important home is all about family, family is my home and not always defined by blood. Family is defined by the people you love, the friendships you make and the people you meet. Some of you may have grown up without a family and some of you might not have one now, but look at it this way. The one or two or however many people you love, think of them as your family, think of them as your special people, as your clan, your tribe or your whatever you want. Just remember that a part of home is about family, and family is not always defined by blood, its defined by the people you love. In conclusion the one thing to remember is that your home belongs to you and no one can change that. It will be yours forever, cherish it and hold on to it for as long as you can, till you can’t.
