The People I Treasure

For me, the meaning of home doesn’t just mean a building but who I’m with, what I’m doing and where I am. I love to snuggle with my parents, on occasion my grandparents' dog Louie who takes over most of the bed. I love it when my papa reads to me right before bedtime. He reads and I scratch his back. In the morning my papa wakes me up and brings me to his bed. I snuggle with my mama. That is when I feel special and at home. When I was young, I used to go to my Omi. I would sit on her lap. Omi and I would read together and laugh. My mama would be watching us. I loved going to all my great grandparents. When I was little, I had a dog named Maya. She made me feel loved. I loved her. Home means being with any of my family members. I feel happy when I’m with friends from far and near. At school I feel at home. My teachers are one of the best reasons. I love when I come early to school and talk with my teacher while it is quiet and peaceful. I feel at home when I’m at A.K. and with my team. That’s where I play soccer, where my papa encourages me. I feel happy when I’m listening to music. I connect to the music. I feel safe when I’m reading, I feel as though the book protects me. Home is what makes me, me. It’s what makes me feel love and happiness. Home gives me humour. I love home. For me home is a feeling, not just a place. That is what makes me feel like home. Thank you, Habitat for Humanity!
