A Home to Have 5 Senses
“It’s Friday, I’m running home! - And look! My house!” Dashing through the door, I get slapped in the face by a burrito squishy.
They're playing our favorite game, Throw Throw Burrito. Mom hugs me tight, giving me the comforting feeling I needed after a rough day at school!
This is what everyone needs, a home to feel safe and cared for.
I walk upstairs, catapult myself onto my light green bed. And sigh, “Now, this is familiar.”
Peeking at my desk, empires full of overdue homework collapse onto the ground, sending me a refreshing breeze of home.
Luckily, it’s game night! I ran downstairs to find the second burrito culprit thrown at me, by my sister. (AKA the master of the burrito culprits.)
In the dining room, a sweet aroma fills all five of my senses.
“Chocolate strawberries!” I exclaim to mom beaming with pride at my sharp scent, as she nods in approval.
This is what everyone needs, a home to smell familiar, homely meals.
Rain lands hard onto our window. I watch the mommy-bird yelps for the protection of her babies.
“Moms do anything for their children.” I whisper my gratitude towards my mother.
This is what everyone needs, a home to hear, to wake up gratitude.
I prance to the living room to eat. As I sip the soup, it releases the best taste, full of rich egg, and of course the tofu that immediately crumbles into my mouth. Saving dessert for Saturday.
This is what everyone needs, a home to taste.
After dinner we all watch a movie.
This is what everyone needs, a home to see. For connection.
My eyes flash shut safely into mom's lap.
This is what everyone needs a home to have 5 senses.
