My Meaning of Home

My perspective of the meaning of home is many things. During my life, I have lived in three different houses. A house alone is simply a building or structure. To me, home is a feeling that does not have to include a structure. Home is warm lighting and a cozy fireplace. Our home’s hallway has warm lighting that makes me happy when I walk out of a room. Home is my safe bedroom and desk to draw on. It is my private space where I can have ‘me time’ and recharge. I find it relaxing to draw and listen to music. Home is a happy family. I always have somebody to come home to. Home is a funny movie night. Movie nights always include buttery popcorn and other comfort foods that can be shared. I am usually wrapped in a blanket next to my mom which makes me feel loved. Home is having fun in a backyard with friends and playing catch with my brother. While we don’t always get along, we always end up laughing; or rather I get hit in the face and he ends up laughing. My friends and I support each other and I am lucky to have a few good friends in my life. Home is planting seeds in our garden and watching them grow. Home is a fresh smelling dinner. I am grateful to have food on the table every night. My family cooks nutritious meals that smell amazing while cooking. Sitting at the table as a family and sharing a meal is one of my favourite things. In the end I am lucky to have many things in my life that mean home to me and give me safe, joyful, and loved feelings. That is my perspective on the meaning of home.
