Home means to me
Home is when I wake up in the morning to the sound of the coffee beans grinding and the chit chat of my little brother talking to himself. I cozy back into the comforting silky covers of my duvet. I listen to these sounds and debate whether or not I should get out of bed. When I finally sulk my way out of bed I slowly walk to the living room area observing the colourful picture frames holding some of the best and most quirky photos of our family.
I keep shuffling my way to the kitchen table. I walk to the kitchen sink to rinse my face. It wakes me up with a snap and I’m ready for the day. I grab myself a piece of toast and munch away while making mine and my brother’s lunches. I always appreciate the conversations me and my parents have in the morning while my brother slowly gets dressed and ready for the day. I listen to my mom's and dad's voices, this immediately calms me and I feel like I can be silly and myself around them. Listening to them and telling them my feelings and concerns makes me feel respected and loved.
When I get home from school I'm always desperate for food and I am excited for the nourishing dinner in my future. I help my dad chop and prepare the veggies. When we are done making the food, we all sit down around the dining room table for a delicious dinner and conversations full of laughter and smiles. After we finish our supper we make our way to the family room where we play our favourite board games together.
Home is somewhere that I can learn and grow, my actions are respected, and I feel safe and confident. That’s what home means to me.
