The Journey Home
Home is not just one place for me. My home moves.
My dad is a member of the Canadian Forces, so my family and i move often. We live in different houses on Air Force bases across Canada. Each time we move I pack my room into boring brown boxes, say see you soon to friends, and start somewhere new again.
In Yellowknife, Northwest Territories home was the sky dancing at night. The Northern Aurora showed me that the world can be magical even when it's cold and dark, and a tiny bit scary. In Comox, BC, home was where the mountains meet the ocean. I learned how big and beautiful Canada really is. In Trenton, Ontario, my home changed again and so did I.
Every move feels exciting and hard at the same time. When you move, it can feel like a piece of you is missing. You leave behind friends, favorite places, and memories. But a military kid also means starting a new chapter. It means learning how to be brave, making new friends, and keeping the old homes in your heart.
Being a military kid means I have friends all over the country. I've lived in extraordinary places. Even though it can be difficult sometimes, it has taught me that home is more than four walls and a roof.
Home is love.
Home is memories.
Home is the journey.
