Home Secured in my Heart

What does home mean? I had to think but now my brain came clean Home is a safe place where I can store all my emotions and feelings A place where people understand me A place I can show the real me Without anyone rolling their eyes at the ceiling Leaving all my friends behind from India and moving to the other side of the world Wasn’t that easy Canada was the place where I thought This is my chance to restart and to make it better And to make myself busy Home is a place where I feel safe, calm, and able to say whatever my heart tells me to without anyone in the room judging me A place where people accept me just the way I am No matter what the situation may be The scent of my parents perfume, the sound of my loved ones laughing Makes me feel Like I belonged here all along I could be free and my wings may be flapping It’s a place where I know for sure That I can place my secrets With support and kindness that I deserve Because everyone's hearts here are pure The smell of my mother’s delicious food, like naan, snacks, and curry The feeling of my parents hands Does not let me worry The sound of my parents silliness Me and my father solving sudoku puzzles and mathematics Are some times Why I dash home after school And why I don’t think of anything else but joy With comments of sarcastic Celebrations and happiness Are some other times when I know that My home is secured in my heart Home The place where I stand
