What Home Means To Me

What is home to you? It could be a tiger’s den or a wasp’s nest; nonetheless, it is a safe place. To me, it is more than just a building made of walls; it’s a place surrounded by those I love most, where I am able to freely express myself and where my best memories and experiences are made. Yet, a home is not always a solid building, as for some, “home” can be a certain person. My family and friends are the very foundation of my home, acting as the brick walls themselves. My mother and father love me dearly and are the ones who taught me my manners, to be kind, and to always strive for knowledge. On the other hand, my older brother, who may or may not bully me, is the very person who taught me how to play basketball—which I truly enjoy—as well as most of my side skills. Despite his nonsense, I know that he deeply cares for me, and that matters a great deal. Now, my younger sisters: I have taught them how to ride a bike, and I also take joy in helping them with school and other things. It is my family who brings out the best in me, and I enjoy their company as they take comfort in mine. Moreover, I know my family will invariably have my back and protect me; they are the reason I feel safe, comfortable, and welcomed at home, knowing full well they won’t judge me like others might. My room overflows with countless memories and thrilling adventures: the sleepovers with my cousins, gaming until sunrise, biking with my brother in the blazing heat, playing basketball, and countless more. In brief, this is my definition of home. In the end, walls do not define a home; rather, it is the people, love, and memories you create that shape it. So now my question to you is: what makes up your home?
