The Hat

He saw it, in the store window, the most beautiful hat he has ever seen and immediately he wanted it. “Mommy, Daddy, can I please get it?”, “of course Leo,” said Leo’s mom “yay thank you, thank you, thank you!” Leo was so excited to get the hat. The next day Leo wore the hat all week, to school, on the weekend, and even when he went to bed. On Monday he wore the hat to school again. When he went to class his teacher told them that a new student will be in their class, she said that his name was Billy. Leo was so excited for Billy to be joining his class. When he walked into his class the next day he saw a boy sitting at the back of the class, he was wearing a raggedy gray sweater, black sweat pants with a lot of holes in them, and he had worn out shoes that looked way too small for his feet. He looked very sad, lonely, and tired. All of a sudden Leo felt really uncomfortable and he wanted to leave but he couldn't. When Leo went home that day he went to his parents to tell them about Billy. His parents told him that Billy’s family is probably really tight with money and might not have a home. When Leo went to school the next day he walked up to Billy and started to talk to him. When he went to his friends after, they asked him where his hat was and Leo replied, “someone needed it more than I do.”
