What Home Means to Me
Home is a place where I can practice my cultural beliefs, it’s a place where I can speak my native language, a place where I can taste the best food. When I’m outside of home it feels so overwhelming but as soon as I enter the front door I hear my mom’s voice saying “marhaban habibi” a way of saying “ hey my love” in Arabic, whenever she says that it’s like music to my ears. I remove my shoes and put my bag down and flop onto the couch then she asks “sho shaar” meaning “what happened at school”, then I yap about my day to her. Then my baba walks through the front door and greets us, I sometimes look at my parents and feel very grateful that I don’t even believe all of this is real. I can’t imagine a life without my parents because they are the reason why I live under a roof and have clothes on me. I enjoy every moment at home because there are some kids who don’t have a home.
