Home Doesn’t Mean a House
A house is just some space;
Home is a safe place,
My house can be small,
But when it’s a home, it doesn’t matter at all.
You see, a home and a house are different,
A home, a thing so magnificent;
A house is just one location,
A home is filled with lots of affection.
A house is a roof over one’s head,
A home is really a refuge instead;
A house can be a boring place, and that’s proof:
A home doesn’t have to be four walls and a roof.
Your home can be anywhere,
Just any place you care;
A house is just bricks and stone,
A home is something to be felt, it can’t be shown.
A home is an enclosure for love,
A house is a structure with a cover above;
Only love can empower hate,
To carry the burden of no home would be a terrible fate.
A home is a storage room, one for happy memories,
And in this home, they will last for centuries.
A house can be lonely and secluded,
A home has people, everyone’s included.
A house can be fancy and neat,
But a home has laughs, oh so sweet.
In my home, with my family,
I feel at peace, it’s a safe place to be.
We hang up crosses made with palm leaves,
We gather for carols on Christmas eves;
For Onam, we make pookalams with flowers like art,
And we count candles on cakes, baked with heart.
So thank you, Habitat for Humanity,
Thank you for giving me this opportunity,
You help those who don’t know the feeling of a home,
Now they have a safe place; they don’t have to roam.
