What Does Home Mean to Me?

What really is a home? Most people think it's just the place you practice an everyday lifestyle. But a home is one of the biggest parts of my life. Your home is built by love. When you share traditions and say things that make people life your house stands tall. But when fights happen, people aren't being nice the house looks like it starts to crumble. But I usually overthink what my grandparents felt like coming to a new country. My Nonno, came to Canada with his 6 siblings and mother. His dad had left his family at a very young age, and he was the youngest, so he had to make the best of it. Finally at age 17 he moved to Canada with his family for a better lifestyle for his future children and siblings. He still calls Italy his "Home", but he has now made Canada a real home. Because of this story, my Nonno now becomes one of my biggest inspirations. He shows me that sometimes you just need to do something and hope for the best. He also shows me courage that being the youngest sibling you still must do what's right. My Nonna also came here from Argentina to Italy to Canada. But my mom and my Nonna are some of my biggest inspirations. They fill the kitchen with an aroma that I’m not able to smell anywhere else. They make their house feel like a home to me. But a home also allows you to relax. An example of this is when my dad comes home from work and usually says something along the lines of "I'm so glad to be home now I can relax". This makes me feel relaxed because I know that he is brushing off all stress. But what really makes a house a home is the family inside it. Every night I pray for the people who don't have their families. But I'm blessed enough to have family and extended family that love and care for me so much. A home is also personalized. My mom keeps pictures of my brother and I all around the house. She also has letters that symbolize our last name. Even for my past family members, I know that they aren’t here but in a home, I always feel their presence. But in the end make your house a home because there is nothing better than family.
