True meaning of home

Turning the knob to a hazel wood door, Opening my secret haven, Excitement that I can’t ignore. My first sight is the hall, My mind goes blank, Slowly stepping into my magical world, There’s no way I'm going back. A paradise that can take you aback The home I want The home I have The home I had A walk into the living room, A feeling of bliss, Grandma’s quilt sits on the couch, I can’t believe I’m feeling it. The fireplace winks, waving hello. The mantle holds captured memories, A collage of family photos Sitting in dining room Chatting around on the table Food and stories shared Competitions on whose laughter can be heard. An irresistible smell wafers in the air, Leading me to the kitchen, Where my mum’s always cooking up dish There’s no chance you won’t eat it in relish, Before you know you’ll be sneaking back for more I know I’ve done that before. Running up the stairs Then opening a door Holding my memories from before, My room, My happy place Welcomes me with a warm embrace Sitting on my beige floor, Looking at my pictures from before, Graduations, Birthdays, Laughs Tears keep flooding back. My bathroom, my quiet space The place of rest To stop my haste The attic and basement Locked up history, Every family’s life A different story The garden, the simplest yet most beautiful place, Where seasons come and go, Never displaced. Beauty in natural things, Joy that is never dying. My home, an extraordinary place Yet could never be same Without my family Who show so much care Whose love they freely share My hopes, My dreams, My desires None of them I would have acquired Without people I can call my own That’s the true meaning of home.
