Home and House

Home and house are not the same. A house is a structure where people live, but a home is where YOU live and make memories with your family and friends. Many memories come to my mind when it comes to describing what home is to me. I could mention just a few. For example: Year-round gatherings with family and friends, eating delicious homemade food, playing board games and talking for hours, that’s what home is to me. Home is where my grandma makes her special savoury bread dripping with honey. An amazing after school treat. On Christmas, all of my family gets together at my home for a celebration dinner. Definitely one of my favourite memories from my home. My mom planning special birthday surprises for me. I still remember my 7th birthday surprise, a scavenger hunt with seven birthday presents hidden around the house. Every November 1st and 2nd we celebrate “Dia de Muertos” - “Day of the death” at my home, praying and honoring our loved ones. This is a very special memory. I love putting an altar for my grandma with her favourite flowers, food and drink. Without a doubt, memories and family are what home means to me. A home is filled with the warmth of love from my parents. A home is where you can find happiness and feel safe. Happiness is the key to make your house feel like your home.
