A book about Kindness
A book about Kindness
One day, a child like me and you, set off on an adventure. Her name was Aurora. She loved to play the recorder and loved her dog, Sparky. But one night it was thundering and storming outside, and she got scared. She went to her mom scared and followed by sparky who was also frightened by the storm outside “Oh, honey it's just a thunderstorm, nothing to be scared of!” said Mom. She held Aurora tight for a while. Aurora soon fell asleep to her mother’s lullaby and slowly drifted off to sleep. Her mother whispered in Spanish “Que tengas un buen descanso, Aurora.” and translated to English “Have a nice rest Aurora.” As she said this, Aurora was in a deep sleep. Aurora had woken up in a Candy land dream.
“MOM? WHERE ARE YOU?” she cried, upset and a little worried. Then a little troll walked up to her and said, “Hello, welcome to candy land! My name is Tinsel, nice to meet you, Aurora!” Aurora was stunned, “How does he know my name?” she thought. She was super confused at first and feeling light-headed. The troll asked Aurora to calm down and breathe. “I will answer your questions as much as I can, Aurora, starting with where you are! This is Candy land also known as the Land of Wonder! From what I understand, you are confused. Yes I’m probably talking too fast right?” the troll paused.
Aurora nodded and replied with a quiet “Yes, I don't understand what this has to do with what I'm asking?” She said. The troll eventually finished re-explaining her sentence … again, “You are wondering if there's any kind people left.” Aurora nodded yet again, how did this troll know her every thought? But that didn't matter, at least, not yet.
“So Yes there are kind people left in the world, they are called Habitat for Humanity! And their founder lives here! He can answer your questions, come with me, Aurora!” The troll said. Aurora for some reason, needed to ask what the troll's name was so she tapped her shoulder“ Hey, uhm if you don't mind me asking,” said Aurora the troll now having full attention on Aurora, “What's your name, how do you know mine?” the troll answered just as quick as asked “I was expecting you soon, also my name is Tinsel” Tinsel had this look on her face like it was obvious. “Are you mad at me?” Aurora asked, Tinsel responded with “No, I'm just … focused.” They had made it to the Fullers home.
“Here we are, Aurora,” said Tinsel as she knocked on the door. A few minutes later, Millard and Linda answered the door. “Hello, Aurora, Tinsel.” Millard and Linda said in sync, “Hi,” said Tinsel and Aurora.
“Aurora has some questions for you guys” Said Tinsel. Then Millard knelt down to the 5-year-old's height “I understand you have some questions Aurora, and Me and Linda are happy to answer them.” said Millard. “What issues does habitat for humanity solve?” Asked Aurora. “I'm glad you asked. You see, at Habitat for Humanity we make decent, affordable shelter that provides families with a place to gather and grow. Even more, by working with Habitat to achieve affordable homeownership, families can transform their lives. Affordable homeownership helps create the conditions that free families from stress and fear, helping build stability and confidence, do you have any more questions Aurora?.” Asked Millard, And Aurora nodded and spoke once again. “Does Habitat for Humanity help higher income Canadians buy properties?” “Habitat for Humanity does help higher-income Canadians buy properties.” Millard said.
“Now its time to go the clock is ticking Millard,“ said Linda. “Time to wake up,” said Tinsel. “Goodbye Aurora,” said Millard, Linda and Tinsel, Who was now smiling. Aurora waved goodbye and smiled as she was lifted with light all around her into the sky. She woke up to her mother rubbing her back and speaking softly, “Aurora, it's time to wake up-” Before her mom could finish her sentence, aurora got up and hugged her. “I love you,” said aurora now beginning to cry. Her mom, taken slightly by surprise, stared into space for a second before tightening her arms around Aurora. “I - Love you too Aurora, but it's time for school, you're going to miss the bus!” “Ok…” said Aurora, “I’ll get right on that!” And with that, Aurora made her bed, brushed her teeth made her lunch, ate breakfast, and got on the bus to go to school. “Love you mom!” Aurora yelled out of the buses window. She then thought about it awhile and then thought, “And you too house, god bless you, and my family,” she whispered just below a breath.
