What is a home?
What is a home?
Come for a tour of my house. When you walk up the stairs you will go right into the kitchen. There is food in the fridge, and the stove and the microwave. Next you will go to the dining room. There is a dining table and chairs. Then you will go to the living room where the couch and more furniture is, there are some pictures on the wall. Then you will go upstairs to the bedroom, you will see a bed with a lot of toys, and then make your way to the bathroom where my stuff is like my toothbrush, toothpaste and hairbrush. I do not have a basement or a backyard at my house but my parents talk about the basements they had with lots of space and storage. My mom had a pool in her backyard and a pear tree. That is the end of the tour of my house - a structure with rooms and things. Now I want to take you on a tour of my home. What is a home? It is not just a structure, a home is the people you are with and the feelings you have when you are in the structure. Come for a tour of my home, these are the stairs that I run up with my brother after a long day of school, we are happy to be home. Come into my kitchen, this is where I cook with my mom or dad, we love cooking at home. Next, in the dining room, we have a table that we enjoy our family meals at, we love eating at home. Let's go into the living room, there is the couch, TV, and coffee table, we have movie nights and game nights here. The pictures on the walls are of me and my family and the special times we shared. We have fun spending time together at home. Upstairs in my bedroom, it is where I go for privacy. My closet keeps all of my clothing inside, my room has all of my stuff. I feel comfortable in my room at home. The bathroom is another room where I have privacy. I can lock the door when I'm showering. I feel safe in my bathroom at home. Remember the basement, my mom tells me stories about birthdays she's had down there with friends, and playing with her sisters. My mom liked to party at home. If I had a backyard, I would invite my friends over to play, right now we have to go to the park, because we don't have the room. I think it could be cool to play at home.
That would be the end of the tour of my home. I hope you can see the difference. A house is a few rooms and a roof over your head, but a home is so much more than that. Visiting other people can be a new experience, seeing them, their stuff, their rooms and their house, but the best experience is always coming back to my stuff, my room, my family, my home. I think everyone should have that experience.
