What Home Means to Me

What home means to me… Written by Goldy Vu A home is far more than just a physical structure of wood, brick, mortar, and furniture, it is the core and heart of the family that is within it. It is the one place in the world where the outside noise fades away and a safe, comfortable, and happy life truly begins. Every day, as I walk through the door after school, the transition is immediate. I am greeted by the familiar sight of my mom and little brother. A little later, the familiar sound of the key in the lock signals me of my dad’s return from work, the final piece of our family puzzle falling into place as his arrival turns our house into a complete sanctuary. A reminder that I am never alone. The kitchen is often filled with the comforting smell of a meal being prepared, a scent that signals warmth, rest, and belonging. Our walls serve as a silent gallery of our lives. They are covered in memories: framed photos of family vacations, medals that represent our hard work, and colorful paintings we created together on random afternoons. These aren't just decorations, they are the milestones of our journey as a family. In this space, I feel completely safe, protected, and valued. It is the anchor that brings us all back together, allowing us to recharge and reconnect after a long, stressful day of work or school. I know how much my home means to me, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for it. Sadly, not everyone has a home though. This is why I am so proud that my school is supporting Habitat for Humanity. Everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, deserves a place where they can feel safe, valued, and loved. By helping others build a place to call home, Habitat for Humanity aren't just building houses, they are building the foundation for families to thrive and live a way better life and have a proper 2nd chance. Because in the end, a house is just a structure, but a home is where life happens. By supporting Habitat for Humanity, we’re helping more families experience that same warmth, safety, and love that we’re all supposed to have… after all, EVERYONE deserves a home. Thank you Habitat for Humanity for everything you do.
